December 17th, 2011 · Comments

Penpal

The six tales told by Dathan Auerbach (Redditor 1000Vultures) have had a phenomonal effect on Reddit.com's Nosleep forum. To celebrate this series, we are releasing a special extended two-part set of recordings that feature all six stories.

Part II features the final three stories:

Maps

Screens

Friends

All stories are narrated by Sammy Raynor (Redditor sammysimplicity). Additional narration featuring Wendy Stolyarov.

What scares me the most is that this story is true. Very touching series.

Just finished listening to this series and I can say without a doubt that it was the most terrifying emotional story I’ve ever experienced from the no sleep forum. I refuse to believe it’s true for my own peace of mind…

How do you know the penpal story is true? It’s great, and I’m not contradicting, merely stating that putting six stories into one like this is good author’s workmanship, and some things if not all may be truth, however, stories like this written by a gifted author ain’t totally unusual, and if you’re good you can always add the “truth” element to it, especially if it’s presented as a self-experienced story. Thus it might be horrid truth, though well written down with the events woven together so as to make it good literature, or “simply” a gifted Horror/Drama, whether which it is one can’t be sure of (that is, if you are not personally acquainted with the facts). Anyway: a great and sad, beautiful horror story, loaded with a dark angst of separation, just too familiar, no less in the drama sections, moreover. Thanks.

Hey guys… This story isn’t true. Sorry. It says it’s fiction on his kickstarter page.

This Penpal series is a masterpiece! It really stayed with me. I did have a question though about why the character was left out in the woods (Footsteps), after the letter was left? Why was he allowed to escape?
